Futura

In the two years of doing my university work, I have been given the Futura typeface many time to work with. I have grown to like this typeface, not that I hated this typeface but didn’t really know it well enough.

Apple Braille

This typeface is very different from the rest because its just a series of dots, which has its own meaning to it.

Cracked

This is the typeface Cracked. What I like about this is the roughness, its not clean and modern, which would not be used professionally.

This is my second year work from Concept Studies, which was my first elective. We had to come up with something out of the ordinary, that’s different and unusual. So to help me with my work I did some research on artists that do weird things. I started of by taking a picture of a building and than started to break the image down. I did this by zooming in parts of the image and making grids and filling them with solid colours. So I ended up with these abstracted shapes.
This typeface is made from Push Pins. This brief involved us experimenting with different materials to come with types. I really enjoyed this exercise as it helped learn more about typefaces.

Fudge is a design agency that is based in UK and one of the team members came in to give a little insight to what the company does. My teacher James told them to bring the ideas that they worked on before moving onto the computer. This was a great opportunity to get an insight look at what the company does before the final design in finished. The work was simpler to what we did in class, before we started to design we had to come up with mock ups and then go with the best idea. Fudge talked about the logo they where designing at the time and showed us all the ruff drawings by displaying on our classroom wall. It was great to see them and then he showed us the design being taken on the Mac. As a designer you want to explore many fun and experiential design ideas but you have to remember that in the agency you have a deadline just link in college but this is for a client. I thought the designs were nice and he had explored quite a lot with the ideas. He also showed us other stuff that they had designed. I was really encouraged by the work they showed and hope to get in touch with them in the future.

ff End Sting

This is an End Sting for my chosen Logo Faber & Faber. We were told we had to use Adobe Flash to make this animation. I never used Flash before so I found to be a challenge at first but I got used it quit well. We just learnt the basics of Flash and with that we had to animate an End Sting which would appear at the end of an advert.

Iconic Features

This is the finished version of Casey and Me. You my notice the difference from the other version, that’s because I had to simplify to the max. How much can you remove but still be able to tell whom the person is.

Iconic Features

In this brief I had to pick a person from my group and trace their image using a template in Illustrator. We had to draw around what we thought was most iconic feature about their face. I chose Casey and traced around her face. I added extra details to make look more like her.

This is some work from Double G Studios in based in London. They aim their there work in motion graphics. These are some images from their website. I like their work, its very clean and modern.

Sunday 19 April 2009

Double G Studios is based in London and they focus on motion graphics, live action and brand identity in their line of work. One of the guys from Double G Studios came in college to give us a talk on what work their company had done and where doing. Some of the work shown was quite amazing. They did work for the BBC, More 4, Big Brother and many more well know brands. He told us that he stared of by doing Graphic Design and than for three years he worked on Plant24. He than did some freelance work with other people and give us some advice from the experience he had. I really liked the motion graphic work as this give me a new insight for Graphic Designing. He showed us that not all of the ideas make it to the final and how everything has to be presented with the up most care. By showing the ideas that he personally thinks wouldn’t have worked he told us that if you feel strongly about that idea than stick with that one.
I personally like the idea for the Summer Music that he did. He used 600 feet of neon cable, 7 dancers with the neon cable wrapped abound them, 5 tents that glow and some 3D effects used to complete the whole process. I think it looked great and the music fits in perfectly with the movement on screen. The End Sting where it shows the Channel 4 logo where it makes a weird noise, sort of like a light flicking was very good. Just the creative side of the process is amazing and you can see that by watching the video. My second favourite was the Big Brother motion where it has glass smashing look and feel to it. To get this look they printed the logo onto a glass and smashed at 1000fps to create the look and add effects to the animation. The sound fits in nicely as well.
Overall I think this has been a great inspiration to me and my work and has helped with the last project that I did which was to think of an idea and animate it using Adobe Flash.

Tal Rosner is an Artist and a Filmmaker who composes sound with movement on screen. He has done work for the Nancarrow which is “pure approach to the sound” showing it in a graphical way and Skins Series Intro 1 and 2. His movies and videos are very abstract and look amazing. He uses changing motion graphics art which show mirror movies or repeated videos combined with different colours. Some of the work Rosner showcased in our Lecture was amazing; it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I was greatly influenced by the work he had shown and he did graphics design before he did this king of work. He showed us how closely he had worked with sound and moving pictures on screen to come up the work. Rosner also showed us projects that where in working progress and what he had done recently. Overall I think Tal Rosner is a great filmmaker and an artist.

I have linked nearly all of the work that I have posted so far, if i need to find a Reference, I can look have a look back the work. If anyone whats to find links please have a look at the Links label or e-mail me.

Se7en - Title

This type was used in the film Se7en. I like how the type has been modified slightly and duplicated three times to give it a unique look. It has its own style and fits in well with the film. It looks great in the intro sequence where it zooms in and out very quickly. I really like this Typeface. Here is a link to Youtube to the Se7en Movie Intro Sequence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I8EHdoljXs

EA Games - Challenge Everything

This is an End Sting by EA Games who make computer games. This is an End Sting because it appears at the end of an advert. This is a great little animation, only 3 seconds long. I like how it appears flat and than shows the EA Games logo than very quickly it disappears the same way.
Coming Soon!!
At the moment I haven’t made any contacts to any Graphic Design agencies but I will be very soon. I have researched some agencies on Google and have found a good number of very interesting Creative Design agencies
This is another short animation by Activision who make videogames. This animation starts at the beginning of a game so it can’t be really called an End Sting. I like how the letter V spins around and the rest of the letters join while it’s still spinning. It looks like a tornado of letters.

This is the new Ubisoft Logo that I have found on the internet. At the moment my brief involves me making an End Sting animation for my chosen logo Faber Faber! So I did some research on Youtube to find some End Stings and short animations. In the end I ended up finding lots of different animations used for various different mediums. I’m posting the ones that I find to be interesting and appealing to me.
Here’s the link to watch the animation on Youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whtomSCFG64
